What does the ej stand for??
What does the ej stand for??
yep
EJ is just the facory nomentclature for engine code. All 2.0, 2.2 and 2.5 liter motors aare designated "ej" series. Thus you have: ej20, ej22 and finally ej25.

I don't think there was ever such a thing as a 90 turbo 2.2. The Legacy Turbo with the 2.2 liter engine was introduced in 1991 and only in North America.
"EJ" is the name of the family of engines (which includes the EJ16, EJ18, EJ20, EJ22, and EJ25). I don't think it stands for anything in particular but I may be wrong.

D'oh -I forgot about the 1.6 and 1.8 liter models
I'm so used to talking about the other three, I plumb forgot the smallest variations.
*edit*
Aren't the ej16 and ej18 JDM variations? Or were they offered in the U.S.?

yeah....in the 1990 Model year a turbo option was not available. The 1991 MY was the first year it was offered in the states. The manufacture date however may be in 1990 though.

EJ means 4 cyl 4 valves per cyl
Also
EG means 6 cyl 4 valves per cyl
EA means 4 cyl 2 valves per cyl
ER means 6 cyl 2 valves per cyl
I Have no clue where EZ came from, nor do I know about the older engines
