front y manifold with no cat?

Post by douglas vincent »

My wagon is NA 1990. What years and models have the front Y exhaust manifold that is interchangeable with mine and does NOT have the catalytic converter at the Y?

Also, when people say you need a 3" pipe for turbo and 2.5" for NA for optimum results, where does this diameter of pipe start?

Thanks

3" on turbo's start at the turbo then back, hence the term Turbo Back Exhaust (TBE). 2.5" on a N/A start's at the Y pipe, I would think, as most people don't do headers.

You'll need aftermarket headers for the 2.5 subaru engine to not have a cat. You'll also need custom from there to the mid pipe.....

So the exhaust manifold for the 2.5 fit the 2.2? Usually? And somewhat bolt up to the existing exhaust?

yeah it will bolt up to the heads......as far as hanger position in the back of the header/manifold I'm not sure.

The hanger postition should be the same, the thing about the y headers is, the flange is in a totally different place than our flange, so you need either a pipe from there to the catback, or the first cat section from a y pipe.

Also all the new subaru's have the y pipe w/o cat setup, wether ej25 or not, I believe they stopped using the y pipe w/cat after the bc/bf and about half way through the impreza line, like 95-96 or so
