impreza 1.8

Post by sillyp »

killed my legacy looking at some imprezas. just wondering if anyone knows anything about the 1.8's. are they as long lasting and reliable as the 2.2's?

I think so. My 1.8 impreza had 130k miles on it and still ran like new, no leaks or noises.

Just as tough as any other Subaru. There are TWO turbo'ed 1.8 Imprezas local to me. One is a Brighton coupe that was once an EJ20T hybrid, then when he blew that up, he put the original EJ18 in it and turbo'ed it. Monster car, easily WRX material. The other one is just some clown that decided his 1.8 Impreza FWD auto was worth working on, and he turbo'ed it. Neither have had any big problems AFAIK.

thanks for the feedback, i don't think i'd be looking to put a turbo on it or anything. i drove one the other day, wasn't too imprezzed. it just felt like something was missing - the power. i think i'm better off holding out for another legacy or a impreza 2.2. anyway, i've heard the 2.5's are much more problematic; 1.8's and 2.2's are better if your looking for long lasting and reliable - any truth there?

My sister had a 1.8 and it was very slow. Felt like more of a power deficit than the numbers on papers would say.
