EJ16 info

Post by mile hi »

Anyone have a diagram or ECU wiring info on a EJ16 motor? I am selling a chip on one and want to check the wiring.

They did make an EJ16. Some unfortunate Imprezas got it.

Al, I'd expect that the pinouts would be almost identical to the other EJ-series 2-channel ignition ECUs in that model year car. Do the connectors match up (as in number of pins, housing color, etc)?

Not sure about the plugs the car is in Singapore and I thought it would be nice to have the diagram if possible. I wonder if it may be the same ECU as the EJ18.

If anyone should come across any information on this I would also like to know the Bore and stroke, if it is a de-stroked 1.8 I might want one or at least the crank. I have a set of mechanical adjustable roller rocker arms and with better valve springs I would try and get it to 10,000 rpm the best I have done so far is 8500 rpm with a NA 2.2.

Oh, I misunderstood... I thought you were trying to sell him an ECU, not a piggyback chip.

I doubt the ECU would be the same as the EJ18's but the wiring might. It's weird... Subaru did sometimes use the exact same connector hardware with wildly different pin assignments (like compare the 1995 Legacy to the 1996 Legacy). Seems like a dumb thing to do.

But then again, all the ECUs with the same connectors as our BC/BF Legacies have almost the same pinouts (aside from aspiration differences and ignition system differences).

And apparently I'm told some BC Legacies in Asia had the EJ16 too. That might imply the pinouts are nearly the same as ours.

You could just have him take a continuity tester to the relevant sensor pins and pins on the ECU connector...

I will have to agree that Subaru does weird things the 95-96 Legacy is an example all they did was flip the connections over left to right for no gain.
This Impreza has been converted to a EJ22 n/a engine and they are trying to get a diagram for me.

If you get an EJ16 to 10,000 rpm, I want a sound clip! What is holding you to only 8500?

I thought that the valves were starting to float but I now am pretty sure that I was running out of fuel. The engine was a 2.2 in a '87 3 door coupe and all it had was a RX fuel pump. The 1.8 likes to rev even better so I thought that a 1.6 would be a screamer.

I should have the information on the electronics on Monday it is being faxed to me by a servicer in Singapore. He has expressed a desire to become a dealer of our products so I should be able to get more information on the engine.
