Dynomat???
Has anyone ever used this product or one like it? There are several distinct rattles with my exhaust and or bass. One specific area i want to do is under the headliner. Would the headliner still fit on with an 1/8 inch piece of material under it?
Also does anyone have any idea about replacing the carpet. Mine is badly stained and emits a very very slight odor when close to it. Could i use any old carpet from a carpet store( being very thin of coursde) or maybe some other material? Shag would be coo tho..

I've used extreme dynamat around the speakers.
What kind of noise/rattles are you wanting to get rid of? Dynamat & other products like essentually lower the resonant frequency of the material it's stuck to so that you no longer here the vibrations. If you want to lower noise levels you need some sort of dampening material.
I would suggest trying to figure out where & what is actually rattling. If it's metal on metal rattling together. Just use some canopy foam or something to put between the pieces of metal. Dynamat is not going to keep them from touching each other and making noise.
The carpet in your car is formed to fit around things. I suppose you could try some generic stuff......I really doubt it would look good though.
Here's some pics of my stereo rewire job, and you can see the carpet shell and what I was mentioning about it being formed to fit around things.

AHHH you took out all your seats to do your stereo install? I never even considered that. It didnt take any time at all to just stick my hand under the carpet.
Its the very front part of the headliner thats ratteling, under the visors. So i'm gonna dry some dynamat

Dynamat is so heavy though. Enough to reasonably insulate the car weighs close to 150 pounds!
I rember a guy back in my Jeep days that put the ultra-thick dynamat on every floor surface, and on every door surface, and on the headliner. He said to cost him several hundred dollars, weighed close to 200 pounds, and the car wasn't even that much quieter.
Legacy777 is absolutely correct, Dynamat doesn't absorb and insulate sound (like the stock sound-deadening material does, which acts as a buffer between noise and the interior, but leaves vibrations alone). Dynamat isloates vibration, so you don't hear THAT. Road noise is about the same with dynamat, than without. You don't hear speaker induced rattles though, because Dynamat isolates vibration, not noise (otherwise you wouldn't hear the music very well).

You women and your obsession with the reduction of noise.
I LOVE hearing every noise my engine, tranny, tires, and exhaust make. Lets me know what things are doing.

I hate the tire noise - it's just an annoying drone sometimes painfully loud depending on the surface. The Yokohamas I have too love to howl even when they're gripping fine. I like to be able to talk to passengers (or even just myself). I also hate squeaks and rattles, but I have no problem with engine noise or some transmission noise (unless it's a sign of impending failure of course).

We don't have a straight cut 1st gear.THAWA wrote:There's nothing I love better than hearing the sound of the straight cut 1st gear in our cars.
Straight gears are ridiculously loud. Put it in Reverse and back up briskly. Hear that howl? THAT is what a straight cut gear sounds like.
Reverse is straight cut, none of the forward gears are. They SHOULD be, but it's a matter of NVH for the consumer, and no NVH is a key feature to car makers.
I love hearing my tires when they are about to break free.

I hate my tires as they howl like an old bias-ply American car even while they hold. I won't get them again.
I did love the sound of my 1970 240Zs rear end - it whined loudly (which was normal). On the later cars they relocated the axles (for better UJ life) and quieted it down considerably. In the process they lost a little character. Been pretty much downhill for those car since.

bvleh, that's what I get for listening to other people without doing research myself (though now I'm listening to you without doing researchBAC5.2 wrote:We don't have a straight cut 1st gear.THAWA wrote:There's nothing I love better than hearing the sound of the straight cut 1st gear in our cars.

I think our first gears are deep cut or something like that. I've heard something is different, but I don't remember what it is.
I don't want a full dog-box, as I like cruising on the highway. I DO want a dogged 1, 2, and 3rd gears. Just so it scares the SHIT out of people when I pull next to them.
