Use of a MT Diff in an AT application

Post by Legacy777 »

I know I posted in another thread, but I need confirmation on this before I ship this diff out to a guy in cali that is in need of it.

He bought a used Japanese auto tranny. He has a 94 legacy I believe, anyway...one of the ones with 3.90 final drive ratio. I have not known any japanese trannies to have that final drive ratio.

He counted the # of teath on the main ring, and it matched that of the 4.111 final drive ratio. He couldn't confirm the pinion gear teeth, but is pretty confident that it is 4.111 final drive ratio.

So instead of hassling with the supplier who says it will work....which is BS.....a simple solution would be to swap the diff. I have that diff out of the donor car which is 4.111.

Anyone see any problems with using that MT diff with an AT tranny that has the same gear ratio?

Rear diff?

There's no difference between AT and MT rear diffs, so I'd say it would work.
