What's the difference between the MSD dis-2 and the MSD SCI (Sport Compact Ignition)? Is one just a newer model or do they have different features? And is installation fairly easy?

I've never heard of the SCI.

Subaru uses a distributeless ignition, so I would say you need a MSD DIS unit....not the SCI....but I haven't seen any specs on the SCI

Hmmm, I'm not sure about the SCI myself so maybe I'll check it out tomorrow and post what I find. Is there anything else I should look for or ask about the SCI unit?

What they have in there is the same thing as their normal products.....it's just marketing crap to sell to the sport compact folks

My schedule changed so I couldn't make it to Checker Auto Parts where I saw the SCI. I do recall that the packaging emphasizing that the SCI unit is built with higher revving sport compact cars in mind, for 4 cylinder engines revving up to 10,000 rpms.

Well, I 'm a little confused. I'll need your help.

So, the SCI, PN 6300, is not for the Suby because it is made for systems with distributors, right? And perhaps it is identical to the MSD 6A, PN 6200 (the general specs seem to be the same but just different PN--I couldn't find PN 6300 under a different name)?

Subys take the MSD DIS system. Is it the Programmable DIS-2, PN 6212, or the DIS-2, PN 6211, or is either of the two okay? The specs and features on both seem to be different. Does it make a difference if one has the NA engine vs the turbo?

As a side question, our cars have two coil packs? I thought it was just one. But I don't know a great deal about the electrical and electronic systems of the car. Always learning, always learning. . .

Are the installation instructions that come with the MSD units accurate and easy to follow or is there other installation information that I should know about?

No the SCI PN 6300 won't work because it's not made for distributeless ignitions. and yeah from what I can tell the 6A looks to be the same thing with a different label and color chassis. Like I said....I think they're just marketing stuff for the SC crowd.

You can use the 6212 or the 6211. However the 6212 going to be a fair amount more money because it's programmable, and to be quite honest, unless you've got substantial mods and plan on using it for a timing controller, I wouldn't bother spending the extra money for it. I'd just get the 6211 Dis-2. That's what I have, and no it doesn't make a difference if you have an n/a or turbo engine.

Our cars technically have one coil pack. There are two coils inside the coil pack, a primary and secondary.

Installation really wasn't too bad, or at least I didn't think so.

btw, am I correct in saying that it doesn't make a difference in the end result of spark performance if I have a Hitachi or Diamond pack if I'm going to install the MSD unit?

Is there any recomemnded place to buy the 6211 at less than retail?

no it shouldn't matter.....however the diamond packs have been said to be better.

ummm....I'd have to look where I got mine, but I think it was either summit, or one of those places.
