Compression on N/A ej"24" stroker.

Post by STi_GUY »

Hey fellas,

Does anybody have a clue what the compression of the N/A ej22 with a ej25 crank will be. My rebuild begins Saturday(finally). Just curious.

I do! If I can find it

First you should know that the ej25NA crank is weak, its a three part unit if I remember right. Second you should know that the pistons look to pass the oil squirters with so much stroke.

I just went through all of this and realized I was better of spending the money to make a bullet proof 2.2 instead of a 2.33 that the 2.5 crank would give.

Also know that oversized pistons that would make any sort of difference would require a significant amount of work. Again you find that its money better spent on producing power in other areas (tuning for example).

Ill find my calculations regarding compression.

Keep in mind that my superbaru is N/A itself. I am doing an all motor buildup. No turbo sadly. I dont think that the N/A even has oil squirters does it?

Whoa, oops! I guess then you should ignore that part!

I have the calculations for an ej22t with ej25 crank eventhough its not going to be the same
bore 96.9 stroke 79 head 40 piston 28 gasket 1.52 C/R 8.36

Where can I get specs on the NA?

Edit: Using the specs from EJCALCS website (which I havnt verified) http://wac.addr.com/auto/obs/turbo/ejcalcs.html I got:
bore 96.9 stroke 79 head 40 piston 14.5 gasket 1.52 C/R 9.87

Seems pretty good to me!

Right on! By the way, I have the full set of EJ25 rods and pistons also. I know I'm supposed to use the rods, but will I get into trouble If I use the pistons also. Let me know If I have the green light. Thanks.

Im not sure about the pistons, you would have to remove quite a bit of material to get them to fit. In the EJ22T the steel liner cast into the block isnt thick enough, meaning you have to machine the block down and install liners.

In the end the cost for all of the work isnt worth the small increase in bore.

You should read the recent postings in the turbo forum.

I think they are. It mentioned it under the section where you take the engine apart and I think it mentioned guidelines for when replacement pistons should be used. Unfortunately all 20 or so of my FSM are at S-Squared.

I was searching through some older threads for info on the 2.4 litre build and found this that you had written.

Now, you actually had to use 2.5 rods, correct? I was just wondering.

Thanks,

Robert.
