Gonna be installing a sparco speed into my 93ss

Post by Spud-GT »

Has anyone done this before? Im hoping I can use the stock mounting brackets and sliders instead of having to make/buy one. Also, any Legacys with sparco seats, would you please post your pictures?

You'll probably need to get a different set of brackets. The ones for a GD will probably work with some modding.

Out of curiousity, why the Speed's? A fixed seat can be horribly uncomfortable on long distance drives. I'm curious though, as to how you feel about it after a month or so about it. The price certaintly is right.

I've been wanting a set of Torino2's to replace both front seats for a while. Those things are comfy :)

Phil's right on both counts. You'll want brackets for a late-model Impreza chassis, and you'll need the Sparco sliders, as well. Just the hardware will run you around $100 per seat. A wise investment, though.

Also, the Sparcos apparently fade in sunlight far faster than other brands. This is one of the main reasons I've been considering Recaros, instead. That, and the Recaros seem to be built quite a bit better, for not a lot more money. :D

Reason for me going to the Speed, is because Im getting a killer deal and my car is only driving to and from school and soon, auto x. Im thinking Im going to try to modify the existing rails and then go from there. It already has sliders and such. I'll post pics of the install.

I'd like a Comfort review. I'm curious as to whether or not a fixed seat would actually be comfortable or not to drive daily.

I'd like a set of Recaro's over Sparco's, but it's hard to justify the price. Recaro's are expensive :(

Although you CAN buy the Tommi Makinen EVO seats, which is pretty dope.

Spud, one thing I have to stress about mounting seats. . . . is you want to be SURE they're secure. Rigging something up using the existing mounts will more than likely be dangerous. . .

. . . unless you're good at welding. ;)

Gonna have a shop install the seat. Someone told me that the GD Impreza rails/brackets/whatever it is bolts up. Meh, Pics of the seat tomorrow.

yep the impreza brackets do the trick and shouldn't need any alterations provided they were made well, i have a pair of sparco sprints in the legacy and although getting in and out is hard the seats feel soooooo good :o

Ok, got the seat installed a few weeks ago. Have put off taking pics of it though. We used the stock Legacy mounting brackets, welded the sparco base on top of that and then bolted the sparco rails to the sparco base. Seat is very secured down.

On a comfort level, its very comfy even though Im kind of big(size 38). Easy to get in and out of but I do that by sliding the seat all the way back. Last night I was missing laying back in my car but thats the price I pay.

Pics tomorrow
