Getting sick of replacing windows

Post by dzx »

So i walk out this morning on my way to school, take a look at my car and some asshole has smashed in the rear wing window on the driver's side. This happened earlier this month also with the window being on the passenger side door. My really nice cd player was stolen the first time so i put in a very old pioneer cd player that is over 6 yrs old. Look in the car and sure enough the cd player is gone. Auto glass place wants 142.00 to replace the window. Last time it was 170.00, I'm getting really sick of replacing windows. I'm thinking about just getting a gat and a car alarm that pages you when someone fucks with the car.

large explosive device trigged by a breaking window would also work.

hey, i had all mine busted out by some asshole, too, only it would have made more sense if they took my stereo, but that was not the intent.. try $1100 for replacing everything but the driver's window.. and two tires.
I'm sorry this keeps happening to you. but be glad that its not personal --or is it?

good luck dude, and yeah, shoot someone over it..

sorry, i'm in a bad mood, had to condone defensive actions with violence...

Subarus are so friggin easy to break into, why do these assholes smash shit? My ex's Monte SS was a thief magnet, too, and even easier to break into (three times while I was with her in a low-crime area). Bastards would still do more damage than the cheap-ass stereos they took. She started leaving it unlocked just so they wouldn't wreck the door skin.

A guy in Britain rigged an electrified fence to his car to stop car thieves. It worked until a judge ordered him to stop when an assmonkey got zapped.

Smashing's fast. I once parked my old Benz on the street under a streetlight and for some reason didn't remove the faceplate on the $650 Denon head unit I had in there.

The next morning I found the passenger side window smashed and the head unit gone, but the DVD player and other stuff that was in the back seat was still there (and this was back when DVD players were valuable). I estimate the whole thing took about 30 seconds - smash the window with a center punch, reach in with a screwdriver and pop off the trim, then take two DIN extractor tools and pull the head unit out, using a pair of tin snips to cut the wiring harness and antenna connector. They probably didn't even look at anything else in the car.

It sucks, but getting a stereo with a removable faceplate -- and actually removing the faceplate when parking the car -- will likely keep your windows intact.

Fake car alarm stickers and a blinking LED are good too.

Yeah, my stereo has a blinking LED when you remove the face plate. No one seems to steal stereos around here anymore - they like the car DVD players and such and I don't have any of that junk (or a car that looks like it would have it anyway).

I always feel bad for you guys who have problems with car or car stereo theft.

I once had my sub/amps and cds and coffee money stolen out of my car but that was with a back door that didn't lock in my toyota..

I live in a neighborhood that is far from the bustle of any main roads right now and I have no worries whatsoever of leaving my car unlocked overnight, although I do lock it always.

I may install a flashing light and sticker, since I'm too cheap for a real alarm, when I move into an apartment nearby as I'd hate to have anything damaged/stolen from the car.

Just removing the faceplate won't always save you. My very nice Sony in-dash CD player was stolen last year...without the faceplate. Smashed window as well. I think the crack-smoking chick next door had her boyfriend do it. You can get the faceplates on eBay really cheap, that's how they get mated back up with the players.

I've seen a few people with fake faceplates...taking a shitty-looking stock faceplate and using it to cover over the good unit.

 the cd player that was stolen this time was pretty shitty since i've been spending my money on performance mods, i think im done with nice systems at least until i move out of the city again. The pliers they left in the car didnt have any prints either. I do like the idea of making the car an electric fence, loading up the trunk with car batteries and wiring them in series would give one hell of a shock. I'd like something where i could come out in the morning and kick the crispy remains off the door handle.

I was gonna say, stop bobbing your head to the Haddaway song and they'd stop breaking

That's why I have a junky 5-year-old JVC head unit that I paid $40 for... Nothing in my car is worth anything to anybody.

Nothing that was in my car was worth anything either. One way to get the power to electrify the car without a ton of carbatteries would be to somehow hook the ignition up to the body and have it come on somehow when someone touched it. I figure my msd ignition gives enough amps to shock someone:D

i have the stock "alarm" on my car, that doesnt work, so it's flipped to "off" but it has a blinky light, so people are afraid of my car. I'm scared though, the deck's worth too much to me to not get an alarm

I don't think an alarm will do much more than the blinking LED already does. Nobody pays attention when they hear a car alarm go off anyway, and even if they do, the thieves are likely to be gone by the time they get over there.

well then i guess i'll have to rig up electrified metal plates under my door handles for people who think they can just get in.

you had a pioneer 9 series didnt you? you can just take the face plate and you should be a little better off than with just the alarm. There aren't too many thieves that would risk an alarm to steal a faceless deck. I dont remember but i think it was fairly hard to identify which deck unit you have when it doesnt have the faceplate.
