Does anyone know where I could find a gauge cluster?

Post by snowboarded »

I will, in the next week or two, be getting a boost gauge, air to fuel, and probly ehaust temp or oil temp gauge. I would like to get a triple pod for the A pillar, where could i find one? Also I know i definately need a boost gauge, but not sure of the others. Any suggetions?

The ones that have been used on people's cars from this board are from an 87-90-something crx.

Brat4by4 has one and there is pictures of his car with the thing installed. A quick search should get you the pictures.

I've got the crx one, only a dual though..

Fit's ok, but not completely flush against the pillar.

How well does it fit? Does it use double sided tape to attach it?

For reference, don't get an A/F meter.

Get Boost, EGT, and Oil Pressure. You can read A/F through the EGT gauge. The rapid movements of the A/F gauge make it more eye-candy than actual use. If you run hot, your running lean, cold, rich. You can also see misfires, and timing changes based on EGT's as well. It's just a more useful gauge. Tap the #3 exhaust manifold and place it there.

Just my 3 cents.

Oh, and about the gauge cluster, I have a feeling that GC pillar pods would fit with trimming. But that's total speculation. One of these days, I'll make a custom pillar pod out of Fiberglass. Until then, though, I'll figure other stuff out.

Honestly, after more careful investigation, I would go with a wideband o2 sensor over an egt. An egt sensor tends to show "trends" in a/f ratios. For example, going lean for extended periods of time vs. instantaneous measurement of a/f with a wideband o2 sensor. My worry is that I might notice the egt gauge at "TOO HOT" measurement after the damage is already done.

Also, egt readings can be "cold" when REALLY lean, and "hot" when semi rich. Therefore, you CANNOT tune with just an egt gauge. You wouldn't know which end of the spectrum you'd be starting at.

An unshielded probe, while a bit shorter lived, will work just fine. I can watch my friend Brent's EGT's move when he's driving. So it doesn't seem to be much of a problem. I do agree that a wideband 02 sensor wouldn't be a bad idea (in addition to EGT), but the cost of them is kind of steep, isn't it? And being cattless, they would be rather easy to foul. I know my car isn't the cleanest of them all.

They are a little more expensive than egts, but the price has gone down significantly lately. I believe you can get a wideband for around $300 these days.

You are correct, Phil, that the ideal situation would be to have both a wideband and egt!

300 bucks!? Holy cow! What kind of life would someone with an exhaust as clean as dirt get out of one of those?

I'm curious as to why you think your exhaust gas is dirty? So you're running no cat. That's not necessarily why your car's running "dirty." Honestly, I think your sooting issues (I'm speculating that's what you're talking about with dirt) is caused by excessive rich-run conditions.

In order to prevent those overly rich tendencies, you have to tune. In order to tune, you NEED a wideband o2 sensor, and NOT an egt.

Like I said, egt is good for monitoring, but not necessarily good by itself to tune a car.

I wont have a spare $300 for a wideband o2 sensor so i think i'll get the EGT to go along with the boost and oil pressure gauges.

The integra one fits perfectly, just never finished mounting it so its just stuck between the dash along the a-pillar. but it clears the seatbelts and fits on the a-pillar nicely

yeh, that is quite a bit of money, if you could do without one of the gauges, like the air/fuel ratio gauge is pretty inaccurate, you could get one like this.

Thanks. Im going to try that. If i need a third gauge (air\fuel) i'll come up with some other unique place to put it.

The price is much better also.
