Rollin on 16's

Post by douglas vincent »

Well I had to do it.

Instead of just passing on the 2002 WRX silver rims and tires to my brother for his Impreza, I stuck them on my wagon. They fit, but barely! The rear tires are only about 1/4" from the spring support. I swapped from 196/60/14's.

I will put my old tires and rims (stock steelies) on my wifes new 90 sedan.

As for looks? dAHm! I must say the car looks better now. Even with sllver on a red wagon, they make the wagon look alot better.

However, we will see if the performance is improved or decreased. My old tires were Zexius Xi 326's which I also had siped. The are very nice tires in my mind. My wife may not appreciate them, but I know she will be safer than the knobby M&S tires currently shod on the sedan.

The new tires are the stock Bridgestone Potenza RE92's. I havent heard anything good about them but I will see. I have only driven about a mile on them tonight just to feel them. First impressions are they are alot noisier than the Zexius tires. But hey, I am on 16's!

1/4" from the spring perch is perfectly fine. You'd have to hit something HARD to rub the strut. Barely clearing is what I'll be doing on 17's with 225/45's on :). The RIM is about 1" from the strut up front. Gonna be a tight squeeze, but it'll be sweet.

The RE92's suck. Plain and simple. I'm quite Surprised that Vikash's car actually stays on the road with how badly worn his are. With something that has such a low tread wear, they grip as well as greased shit. The Nitto's going on my new wheels are gonna be a helluva improvement.

yeah, I think barely fit is a little exaggerated. You will be fine.
