Engine woant start!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Post by GizMo22t »

I was on my way back from work today. My gas gauge was just above E, so I decided to get gas. I pulled up to the pump, filled the tank with $12.00 worth of 91octane gas and went to pay.. After paying for the gas I got in my car put the key in the ignition and tried to start it. The car started but died just as suddenly as it started. After trying for thirty minutes or so to get the car started I gave up.The car will turn over and I will get spark to the plugs but it act's like I have no fuel in the tank.. When it did start I would have to push the throttle almost to the floor and it would stay alive but just barely. It would just go Blub Blub Blub and Die.........The car ran just fine before I got gas so I think it is the gasoline....What do you all think? Please Help!!!!!!!!

You probably gunked up your fuel filter. Try filling up by quarter tank. The blockage backs away from the filter just enough to let some gas get by, but when the fuel pump picks up some pressure it lodges the debris back into place. I've had this happen a couple of times, get all your fuel filter changed.

I'd say it's either fuel filter or MAF sensor.

You can rule out the MAF right away by simply unplugging it and trying to start the car. If circumstances don't change....it's probably filter.

Spending money on a couple of fuel filters is a whole lot easier than spending money on a new fuel pump. Unless you wanted a better fuel pump anyways... Even so, you would need new filters anyways.

Well, I got the car running it ended up being the fuel pump. Lucky for me I found a shop that would trade me for a 350 fuel pump. I replaced the fuel filter before I replaced the pump but the car wouldn't start. Replaced the pump and it started right up. Thanks for all your help....

Mo, what exactly is the "350 fuel pump?" Pardon my ignorance... Do you mean a pump off a small block Chevy? Or some manufacturer's 350 liter per hour pump?

350 liter per hour. sorry about the confusion. I'm prity sure It is one made by Holly. I found it to work verry good on my honda when it was turbo'd.

This happened to me in my Cherokee once. I was cruising through SLC and turned left... Jeep died and wouldn't start. I had just replaced the fuel filter only a few months before, and I had plenty of air and spart. That ment the issue was fuel. Dropped the tank, put in a new pump, put the tank back in... and the Jeep fired right up with no hesitation.
It also felt like I had a little more power. My old pump must have been tired.
