W00T!!!! 300,000 kms and still going strong

Post by mikec »

I had to post this.... Pull in for gas, and as I'm writing down the mileage, I realize I almost missed my car passing 300,000 km. Thankfully I had my camera with me.

Now I just need my timing belt and water pump to show up in the mail, and I can get that maintenance done. Next on the list after that is the A/C (just in time for winter )

Yeah Andrew, its definitely keeping me happy. Hopefully I'll be able to get the rust and dents taken care of before the end of next year.

That's approximately 186,000 miles, certainly a respectable, but not impossible, landmark to reach. Josh you're close to 180k aren't ya?

Congrats anyway! :)

I like the speedometer going that high for speed............

Post by GT8 »

If I had the speedo I would turn it into MPH's and watch peoples faces. it just takes some math, a paper clip and 59.5 feet.. Aaaaah never mind to technical for some minds... It's like E=MC2 and the apple pie on the head from some 60 feet up a building!

Thanks guys! I'm actually getting scared of what the timing belt is going to look like, as the car had sat for 4 months before I picked it up. The service records are seriously lacking.... :(

And GT8, you're not satisfied enough with your own threads, that you need to do this to others?

I'm at 187,000 and going very strong. Minor things like axles and wheel bearings, but no major engine work.

Ignore him and maybe he'll go back to plugging his sister in the out house in back of the cabin he lives in. Must have just got telephone out there finally.

Congrats on the mileage..er I mean Kilometers! :)

Mine let go at 142k but it was my own fault for screwing with the wiring (among other things ;) )

And yes, I've been think it but I think it would be a first and that'd be kinda sad. It sure is annoying though....

Post by GT8 »

Hmmmm I have to check that one out with my sister that is a Harvard med grad that is now a doctor!

I don't know what came first the doctorate or the Rolls Royce..... I know her speedometer is at 122 miles. It's a new Rolls, but she does drive a Subaru when she wants to pick up junk and drop it at the dump. She just fills the back seat up with trash in her new Forrester and away she drives!

It is a sport utility vehicle afterall.

My friend's timing belt on her 91 had a pretty good crack in it last time I took it off... I put it back on because we were planning on going back in there soon to fix some things. (yeah right) She doesnt really think about it anymore... As long as it runs, shes happy... Just wait until that belt snaps and shes on the side of the road somewhere. I keep telling her that. I replaced my timing belt as a precautionary measure when I bought the car and now its almost time again! I'm just rackin' up the miles! I will be at 200,000 miles before u know it! (I hope) :)

Sounds like my mom with her Sable.... Things only get done when my brother or I ask her about them. I'm waiting for the "Can you come get me?" phone call also.... :(

You mentioned the timing belt...think of how many of our high-mileage cars would be dead today, if the engine were interference type. I've lost two Hondas over the years to the unexpected timing belt failure / ventilated piston deal. And that's with good maintenance. Non-interference is a big factor in keeping so many of our cars on the road.

I'm at 166,000 miles and the engine literally runs like a top, 1/2 quart of oil used between changes. My ex-wife's 1993 Honda EX wagon at just a bit less mileage is definitely going to die first, its using oil and having weekly problems.

I think I can drive this car for 5 more years considering the body condition, at which point I'll be looking at 250k hopefully.
