Should I rethink the header wrap/turbo sleeve?

That spinning thing that makes all of the cool noises. OE and Aftermarket.

I've heard this too, and have a friend that had his borla header crap because he wrapped it.....or it failed....and just happened to be wrapped.

I'd probably not do it. I'd suggest the Jet coating.

Anybody know how long that takes? This is my only car and I don't know if I could take off work for a week.

Depends on where you send it....see if there is a place to do it around your area.....

header heat wrap

Post by subiecar »

I used the wrap initially on my first set of Borla headers and was not happy with the results :?. It probably hastened their cracks and ultimate failure of the headers. Fortunately, Borla replaced them with a series II upgrade for only the shipping charges; I`d recommend Borla to anyone when it comes down to warranty or service. Also, your heat wrap won`t help with any horsepower as far as that goes. I ended up using a patch of the stuff to keep turbo heat off my wires under the hood. My advice? Don`t waste your money (let guys like me experiment and save you the trouble  )---Rod

Most coating places will only take a day or so to do your pipes if they're not backed up..

Here in the Puget Sound there is a REALLY good place in Auburn where i source out all my ceramic coating stuff too. they do an excellent job and will even clean your parts for you if you're nice to them. :D

Get the ceramic coating done. It's easier to work with, cools down faster, and looks a helluva lot better.

Ceramic coating.....

Post by subiecar »

:D I found a local guy that does ceramic coating. He explained the incredible underhood heat reduction that occurs when this is done (approx. 200 degrees less!) I`m doing the headers, uppipe, downpipe and the inside of the tubes from the airbox to the throttle body (this will keep the cooler air in as I don`t have an I/C yet.) He does all the parts cleaning and everything is coated i/s and o/s (except the air tubes.) All this is being done for $300 or less! Also, he showed me a custom downpipe from a WRX that he`s doing; it had a separate tube for the wastegate running approx. 18" down and rejoining the pipe with an exhaust dam welded between the wastegate and the the turbine-it was too trick! He gave me the guy`s card and I`ll be calling him today as the bellmouth I just had done on my downpipe won`t be near enough to match this other mod. I`ll let you know what happens...and Josh, I`ll call you by Friday with M/C info.....getting closer to fire-up---ROD

Very cool Rod,

I actually picked up a brand new SVX MC on ebay for 20 bucks. vrg3 helped me find it. I emailed the guy selling it......from his emailings....he doesn't know a damn thing......he said the MC was 11/16" there's no freakin way.....I asked for a tracking number....haven't gotten a response......so hopefully I'll get it within the later part of this week, or next week.

I'm assuming this guy just had no clue what he had, and wanted a few bucks for it........and that it is in good working order.

At the sake of sounding rather dumb....what is an MC? I think I should know this but currently I can't make out what it stands for.
