2wd Turbo Legacy?
Was there ever a 2wd legacy turbo? I was sure there never was, but read about a 2wd turbo in a few places, and even heard from someone who claimed they saw one at a dealer in 1991.

I remember seeing it listed somewhere as an option for Subarus built in 1991, but have seen no proof. I could make one myself easily, and practically have (I'm running the long block), but that wouldn't be OEM.

Interesting....
I would like to have the ability to run RWD when I so desire. It would be fun, and great for some tracks.

The Subaru parts sheets include an FWD turbo model... I don't think the VIN decoder in the parts sheets do though. It's weird. Maybe they were going to make an FWD turbo but then didn't? I don't know.

There's no FWD turbo legacy. Some of the literature may say other wise, but we all know the literature has its mistakes.

-K-, the DCCD does not let you run 100% RWD, but it lets you run 35/65 F/R which is as close as any Subaru gets.
(An interesting aside: I only learned this recently, but the STi 6MT uses clutch packs as a center diff instead of a viscous coupling, so it's the only Subaru MT to use clutch packs. This would make sense though, as I don't know how the DCCD could possibly do everything it does with a simple viscous coupling
)
And, no there is no FWD turbo Legacy. It wouldn't surprise me if SOA was planning one, but it definitely never happened.

actualy dccd is capeable of going a little farther. 25/75 if i remember corectly. friend of mine did that with a hard launch at the track and nealry jumped into the left lane. he had no trackion in three gears. but he still managed a 11.91 at 5000 ft.
and i think for wrxs nino has a rwd kit that replaces the center diff. its kinda cheap if you turn in a core. but if you like to swich back an fourth than is a touch more expensive

That's what I assumed, that there never was one. I was just curious to see in anyone knew of any. About RWD, I know a company makes a center diff for WRX's(5MT) that lets you run RWD only, so it probably fits other 5MT's as well.

okay, honestly, wtf would you want to run RWD?? isn't the entire reason we own a subaru for the AWD???? Maybe I'm just being too LOYAL(-e), but.. really, if you want a RWD car, get an RX7 or something.. it should be a sin to convert your AWD, if you ask me.
Can anyone give me a good reason why you're all wanting this?

FWD flosses its teeth with my ass hairs and that's Subaru's alternative to AWD. RWD puts less stress on the drivetrain since hard launches result in burn outs rather than shocking the transmission. It's also fun to slide sideways up the street muscle car-style sometimes (for the guys with turbos).

The RX7 Tranny bolts up to the EJ longblock. The Corvette tranny does too (with a bit more work).
Steve - I can slide sideways up the street muscle car style in the rain
. I launched in the rain the other day, boy howdy was that... interesting. 1st gear spun all 4 in a glorious plume of mist. 2nd gear let all 4 go as soon as I was spooled. The 2-3 shift brought forth yet another sideways leap as all 4 broke loose. I was able to hold on when I spooled in 3rd. If I was rolling in 2nd and hit it, I'd probably break loose once spooled

An interesting bit I picked up is that there are DCCD 5mt's, so I don't know that only the 6mt has a clutch pac. I've been doing some looking around on the 6mt and the 5mt.
I did find out that you can change the center dif to get a RWD, sounds fun. The thing is that the rear dif and axles might not like all that power too well. Not that we are at the huge power mark with the Legacy SS.
25/75 Rear sounds kinda nice......
