Stopping those %&$*# squeaks

After finally getting ridof the outragous noises from my suspension (especially from worn sway bar bushings), I was pretty distrubed by the amount of body noise, creaks, groans, squeaks etc.

Certainly this is not the all-time stiffest body but it can't be that bad. So...

last night I broke out the lubricants. I doused all the hinges, latches, latch loops, seat latches, etc with spray lithium grease.

then I doused a sock with spray silicone fluid and wiped down all the door seals, glass seals, those little rubber bumpers under the hood and on the back hatch, and the door jambs, in short everywhere I thought there might be contact between body panels.

Not only did at least 75% of the noise stop, but the wind noise is reduced a bit since the slicone helps the windows roll up easier, and seal tiny gaps in the rubber seals.

This has made a huge difference in the way the car drives simply by not having to listen to thebody complain over every bump. Highly recommended for the 15 minutes work it takes.

replace the sway bar mount bushings with Energy bushings. The clunks will be gone most likely.

the worn front sway bar bushings allow the bar to strike the front subframe or steering rack, causing the loud clunk

Whenever I corner hard the dash creeks but I've grown used to the idiosyncries of my car.

Thats a good idea though, I'll give it a try one weekend.

I got the spray lithium stuff. Where do you get the silicon stuff to wipe on the seals? Is there a brand name or a national place to get it? Thanks.

I quieted my GL hatch quite a bit last night with the lithium grease and fixing an exhaust leak

. But yeah, the squeaks were pretty bad, too, and they subsided substantially.

I don't even know where I got it. I like it because it is pretty inert and won't mess up the rubber, and it smells pretty good. I wouldn't use WD-40 because of the stench, and it has a lot of hydrocarbons that can swell rubber.

It is in a big yellow can that says "Silicone Spray". It makes skateboard truck bushings shut up, too, which is really why I have it.

I used a rubber/vinyl conditioner on the window seals. Worked fine.

You could always go to the adult store and get silicone based lube....

I have that same yellow can! I used it all the time to protect metal from corrosion in the engine compartment and suspension (maybe that's why my creaks aren't bad). Now I use marine Corrosion Guard for metal protaction. WD-40 evaporates quickly.
