Turbo IQ test

Post by -K- »

This is for everyone who enjoyed the Ricer or Racer test. It made me remember this turbo IQ test. It's not easy, but it will tell you the right answers at the end so at least you should learn some interesting turbo tech.

9. Fair. I missed the first question about when the first turbocharger came out, and the purpose of a wastegate (I didn't read the rest of the answers, just the obvious one  ). And a couple other ones that I pretty much guessed on...

I think that's pretty damn good for a guy who's never had or worked on a turbo car in his life :D

Yeah, some of the terms I never heard of. I got the first one right by guessing - I assumed prewar aircraft engine development, but it was a guess.

I scored a 10. Naturally Honeywell had to put in a question about one of their products.

Hmm, got a 9 here. . .

Missed the date on #1
Missed #8 . . . guessed C
#11 . . . well, had never looked at that turbo before
#12 . . . thought it was used on diesel and gas engines. .
#13 . . . "plain journal bearing"? Hmm, I need to read more about turbos.
#14 . . . really had no idea piston ring seals were used. Thought it was just carbon faced. :?

I thought I did okay having never really studied turbos at large. . . usually just ones that I have a hand in. ;)

12 on this one. I didn't know that variable geometry stuff was used in auto-turbos. A lot of jet engines use variable stators....cool stuff.

13!

I guessed on a few, and only knew the VNT questions because I had a conversation about them with some friends while we were doing the exhaust on my friends 05 Legacy GT and having my BOV pipe made.

Guessed on a few of them though.

That's a HARD test!

That was fun. I got a 9. I guess it's okay considering I've never studied about turbos (just bits and pieces of what I've picked up on the Board) and I've never even touched one in my life ... yet.
