msd fuel pump voltage booster
i was reading a new issue of hot rodding magazine and saw an ad for msd ingition's fuel pump voltage booster. would this be a good investment for our cars. it hooks up to the stock fuel pump and is adjustable from 1.5-22 volts. they say its the economical way to increase fuel pressure, but dont list a price. i checked the msd site and still couldnt find a price. if its not too expensive i think ill buy one because im having fueling problems. anyone know of cheaper ways to increase fuel pressure possibly witha home made part?

A voltage booster won't increase fuel pressure, exactly. It'll increase fuel flow. That will allow for higher pressure than you'd otherwise be able to achieve with the same pump.
A lightly used Walbro pump would probably be cheaper than a voltage booster, and also, as a bonus, will last much longer than an old overdriven stock pump. Again, it will flow more, but should not affect fuel pressure unless you were asking too much of your stock pump.
You could increase fuel pressure by just crushing the cap of your fuel pressure regulator in a little bit. That increases the preload on the spring, raising pressure.
But why do you want to increase fuel pressure? That wouldn't solve fueling problems; it would complicate them, or at best mask some of them. Fuel pressure is supposed to be 36.3 psi above manifold pressure for the EFI system to work how it's designed to.

If you are having fuel problems, such as missing/ cut out around corners, or problems when the tank gets less than a half a tank, you NEED a new fuel pump. The Walbro 255 lph pumps are great and run from $80 to $120 depending upon where you buy it.
