blood and sweat

Post by TurboLegacy »

i give new meaning to the saying " i put my blood an sweat into it". when im working on my car, i always end up cutting myself pretty bad and then i bleed all over everything in my engine bay. and then i get so frustrated sometimes that i sweat profusely on everything also. bandaids are for wusses.

I think it's not really your car until you bleed or sweat on it or swear at it a little bit.

Right. It knows that you're it's bitch, otherwise you wouldn't work so hard at keeping it around.

Especially since you cater to it's needs and spend money on it constantly.

I don't see how anyone can use gloves while working on cars. I cannot feel what I'm doing at all...

I'm an avid glove wearer. Just gotta get used to it. Once used to it, you can feel everything important.

I use them now that I work on crap for a living. Try torching off rust-covered manifolds of two stuffed-in 454s in the back of a POS Proline boat for two days while stepping in rancid bilge water (necessary to reduce fire issues - fiberglass=flammable). Or working in cramped access holes to get at macerators (the things that chop up the shit from the toilets) or water pumps. Wet-swelled hands and sharp-edged hose clamps=annoying bleeding. Plus chicks don't dig on the black nails and skin crevices.

I don't usually wear gloves (the pleasures of being married ;) ) hehe.

Really though, I don't usually wear gloves unless the motor is hot. Then I might wear them. I finally learned after burning and scaring myself numurous times that gloves save skin. If it's something that requires touch to do then there is no way I can have gloves on.

Doing suspension and brake work(the only kind of work i do on my car), I use gloves. Stuff is generally big enough to feel with gloves on, even on my smaller than guy hands in guy sized gloves.

I've had quite nasty "bites" from cars doing suspension work, like hammering my knuckle into the lip on the strut, and having an inch long set of parallell cuts where I bend my finger. I still sometimes forget gloves, but when I think about them, there's no question in my mind whether i should use them or not

You can actually lift and twist more with gloves. Its kinda like punching something with a bare fist compared to one that is taped.
