Ohh, yeah...

Post by Nomake Wan »

Well, after I got home from school and picked my sister up from her cello lesson, I put my Legacy in the garage to do a little checking. I was looking for a few things, thinking about what I was going to change over vacation (if I got the money I needed, that is)... stuff like that.

My dad came home wonderin' where I was since the car wasn't outside, and we got into a conversation over my car and changing stuff... he's all for me making modifications as long as they aren't really serious. He says that since it's my first car and all, I shouldn't put "too much" money into it. Heh.

So that's when he started complaining about his Ford Contour... see, he's been borrowing my car for the past couple of days since his car doesn't do so hot in the cold here. Heck, yesterday his door latches froze open so his door wouldn't close. And I was agreeing (his car does suck)... so then he suggests to me, "Hey, what if I trade in my Contour and Capri and get an Impreza RS?"

Like he even had to ask! He's been saying for a while that if and when he gets a new car, it'll be a Subaru... but now he's set on getting a 2005 Impreza 2.5RS within the next week or so. He likes the car, I like the car. He likes the manual tranny, I like the manual tranny. He likes the blue color, I like the blue color.

The only place we differ is that I'm tryin' to convince him to get the sedan, but he kinda wants the hatchback. Heh, I want him to get the Sedan so I can borrow it every once and a while. Hehehe. I know a few people around that would crap their pants if I drove up in that car.

So yeah! I'm hella happy that he's making such a decision, and my mom whole-heartedly agreed with him, so it's a go. Over Winter Break we'll be proud owners of a blue 2005 Impreza 2.5RS. I can't wait!

...I just hope I can talk him out of the hatchback. Heh.

(Hehehe, a 1990 Legacy L and a 2005 Impreza RS. Nice.)

The Impreza doesn't come in a hatchback, does it? Do you mean tha 5-door wagon?

I say wagon all the way. Up around here there isn't a big security concern, which in my mind is the only good reason to choose a sedan over a wagon, all else being equal.

Yeah, the wagon... but he calls it a hatchback, so that kinda filtered to me is all. If I say hatchback I mean 5-door wagon. Would some nice moderator mind changing the poll option for me so no one else gets confused?

And what do ya mean by "security concern?"

A sedan has a trunk that you can put your belongings in. Passers-by can't see what, if anything, is in it. In many cases, you can lock the trunk so that the valet key will not provide access to it. That's a definite security advantage.

I have friends who live in places where if you have a wagon you can't leave anything in the car, and if you have a sedan you can only leave things in the trunk. If you do otherwise, you'll probably come back to find a window and some of your belongings missing.

Lucky for us, Ithaca's not a place like that.

I have always disliked the Impreza wagons. They just look goofy.

So if I were going to get an Impreza, it'd be a sedan.

If I got an 05 Legacy, there's a good chance I'd get a wagon over a Sedan, and pimp that shit OUT. I spent today driving an 05 Wagon, and I LOVED it. Thing is SO pimp :)

too bad they don't make the coupes anymore. I love my 01 Rs coupe. I think subaru would sell more if they did.

But a family- go for the wagon. I have seen some bad ass WRX wagons.
Yes I have too many Subarus

Well, it's more a 5-door hatchback than a wagon, but hatchback's a bad word in the US. Anyway, I'd go with that - I'd only not go for the 5-door if there was a coupe option.

RS wagon's rock! Of course I'm now biased. I was able to talk the dealer down from 18K to 16,500 tax/title/registration, they would not budge on the WRX's that were starting at 24K before taxes. They also offered me a ton of money for my old Legacy, which is really the only reason I was bothering with a brand new car. Insurance would have cost me a grand more per year with a WRX, not to mention premium gas. So the $8,000 price difference, an extra $1,000 of insurance, and having to buy greater amounts of expensive gas made the RS an easy decision. Of course you can find used WRX’s for less than 20K, but was it taken care of? I posted some pics on the RS site: Royal Blue Pearl

Well, I personally want a WRX, but it's not my car nor my decision; it's my dad's and my mom's. I got him to agree with me that the WRX would be better with how little more it costs... but my mom doesn't like that it doesn't have an automatic transmission (my dad and I don't want an auto, but she does) and she doesn't like paying any more than she has to. So that kinda sucks.

Tomorrow my dad and I are driving out to California to drop off the Contour with my grandmother (it likes Cali more than NY) and pick up our new Subaru.

But if we're gonna be out there alone... we might just get a WRX. ^_~

Wagon or Sedan is gonna be an issue, still... we disagree pretty solidly with one another. We'll see in a few days, though.

Tell your mom that the 5spd is 800.00 cheaper than the auto

The WRX is available in an automatic...

But it's heavier, gets worse gas mileage, and costs more.

Oh, she knows. She wants an auto, though, that's why.

So while an RS 5-spd would be cheaper than an auto, it wouldn't be cheaper than a 5-spd WRX. That's her logic (aside from wanting an auto anyway, that is).

EDIT: Wait, it has an Auto version? I'm almost tempted to put that into the conversation. I badly want a manual, but hey... if I can get the WRX on just her getting an Auto... hell yeah.

EDIT2: Wow. 7-7. Anyway, the CA trip is off, but trading the cars isn't. So yeah, plan is still that within a week we'll have our new Subaru.

you could get a great deal from carter subaru if you go through Joe Spitz... Just something to keep in mind.

I say go with the wagon, they are more practical, and the look grows on you, yeah it takes a while, but it does grow. I have a coworker with an 05 2.5 rs that's sorta interested in running me once I get the TWag back, i'll let you know how it goes. :)
