need help with ej22t into a 97 impreza

Post by Impezer22 »

I did a swap into my impreza but im running the 1.8 ecu. I was told to come on here and ask what to do on how to wire up the turbo ecu. Could someone help me on what to do. I did a search but had no luck.

Thanks Chris

Well, you'll want to start by reading through the stickied threads in the Electrical and "Stuff You Need to Know" forums. Then you'll want to do some searching for stuff like "ej22t swap" to see what non-turbo Legacy people do when they swap turbo motors in. Then you'll need pinouts for your stock ECU. If you can't find those in the NASIOC Subaru Conversions forum, let me know and I'll try to get them for you.

Well, I did a search in nasioc and all i could find is people doing 2.2 to 2.5 swaps or 2.5 head swaps. I did find some 2.2t swaps into an impreza but they were obd 1 cars. If you could find me the info i need to get this car to run right it would be well appreciated.

Thanks Chris

So you have the pinout information for the EJ22T ECU now, right?

This info is from the 1997 Impreza factory service manual:

http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/pics ... iagram.jpg
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/pics ... _pins1.jpg
http://www.graphics.cornell.edu/~v/pics ... _pins2.jpg

For the most part, you just need to connect each wire to the right pin.

You may need to add one wire to the MAF sensor harness, to connect pin 5 of the MAF sensor to the EJ22T ECU.

Connect the front oxygen sensor signal line to the EJ22T ECU. Just leave the rear oxygen sensor not connected to anything.

You'll want to use an EJ22 throttle position sensor, since it goes the right direction and has the idle switch. That probably requires the EJ22 throttle body as well.

You should be able to just connect both of the car's radiator fan control pins to the one radiator fan pin of the EJ22T ECU.

You will need to wire in the pressure exchange solenoid and pressure sensor for the EJ22T. The boost control solenoid isn't needed if you're using another boost controller, so you can replace it with a 470K 1/2-watt resistor.

You'll want to wire in the read memory connector so you can pull trouble codes from the ECU.

The easyest way to do the swap :

1 - remove your 1.8l engine,
2 - Separate the Intake manifold and swap them (put the ENTIRE 1.8l Intake manifold on the 2.2T engine)
3 - Swap the 2.2l in the car
4 - direct connect the 1.8l ECU onto the engine
5 - use SAFC to correct fuel maps ;)
