help with a shudder around 2000rpm please
Please share any recommendations about this situation: 93
Legacy, FWD, AT, 110k mi. At about 45 mph the car shifts into 4th
gear and the tach drops to about 2100 rpm. Then about 4
seconds later there's a slight shudder and the rpms drop to
about 1800 and stay there. This is with constant pressure on the
throttle. From the TCU I get codes 32 and 33 (vehicle speed
sensors 1 and 2, but don't I just have one because it's FWD, not
4WD?), and from the ECU I get code 32 (O2 sensor). Except for
this little shudder it seems to run great, smooth and quiet. Any
thoughts?

Not sure about the speed sensors, aren't they the ABS sensors?
On the O2 sensor side, if the ECU is seeing a rich or lean condition
mistakenly, it will do wierd things to the air/fuel ratio.
I recently fixed a vacuum leak i'd had for months that would cause a
shudder at mild throttle in 2nd gear. The engine was getting too
much air for the fuel and running lean. As the O2 sensor would read
this, it would bounce back and forth between rich and lean, causing
an annoying shudder.
Vacuum leak fixed: no more shudder.

Speed sensors, you only have one to my knowledge.
What I would suggest is resetting the ECU/TCU. Do the battery dance method this time around. After that....drive the car, see if the codes show up again. If so, you probably have a legitimate problem and should replace the sensors. I would start with the O2 sensor first.....if it comes back.

Oh forgot to mention. The speed sensors are not for ABS.
They come from the tranny. There are two of them normally on AWD models. One is connected to the rear drive shaft.....measuring its speed. The other I believe is hooked up to the front diff and such. It sends your speed to your speedo, and also tells the ECU whether front wheels are slipping/gripping...etc.
On yours.....you probably only have the front sensor........and they probably just tied the one sensor to both codes.

In leaving my PCV system basically disconnected, i'd left the PCV
valve open to atmosphere, and when it wanted to draw in crankcase
air, it was actually bringing in air that wasn't being metered by the
MAF, so the car was running a leaner mixture than it should have been.
I reconnected the PCV system and now everything is kosher.

....there is a speed sensor which is incorporated in the speedometer

Speed sensors, you only have one to my knowledge.
What I would suggest is resetting the ECU/TCU. Do the battery dance method this time around. After that....drive the car, see if the codes show up again. If so, you probably have a legitimate problem and should replace the sensors. I would start with the O2 sensor first.....if it comes back.

Legacy, FWD, AT, 110k mi. At about 45 mph the car shifts into 4th
gear and the tach drops to about 2100 rpm. Then about 4
seconds later there's a slight shudder and the rpms drop to
about 1800 and stay there. This is with constant pressure on the
throttle. From the TCU I get codes 32 and 33 (vehicle speed
sensors 1 and 2, but don't I just have one because it's FWD, not
4WD?), and from the ECU I get code 32 (O2 sensor). Except for
this little shudder it seems to run great, smooth and quiet. Any
thoughts?
