ECU code checking

Post by William D. Robinson »

The bettery dance ECU reset technique takes too long, unprograms your clock and stereo and often just doesn't work. The rolling technique as detailed on Josh's site is the only way to go. Believe me, I have reset my ECU so many times in the last three months, I know what works.

ECU code checking

Post by Josh Colombo »

Here is the only issue with plugging the connectors in.

It will clear the codes from the ECU memory. However it does not "RESET" the ECU.

Try it for yourself. plug the two connectors in, clear the memory, and then disconnect the connectors. Then drive the car. There's no discernable difference in how it drives.

Now try the battery dance. Do the procedure listed on the site, then drive the car. The car will act differently until it picks up more data to learn A/F mixture.

So the connector plugs will clear the memory......however they will not reset it from a fresh point.

ECU code checking

Post by georgerbyrne »

Yeah, that's what i thought the situation was. That it just cleared
the codes, but didn't reset it. That's why i was interested in what
wires to use. Essentially i would want to be able to reset it. I am
always doing mods to the car and chopping and changing parts, and i
get sick of having to reset my stereo etc every time :(
And don't worry Josh, your site and Legacy Central are big on my
favourites list, always picking up good info from them ;D
Thanks, George, Australia.

ECU code checking

One thing you can try,

It has been mentioned on another board. There is a fusible link or fuse that cuts power to the ECU, but doesn't mess with the radio stations and such. I can try and find out more info and post what I find.
