Big Fuel Pump and Rising rate Regulator

Post by William D. Robinson »

My limited personal experience with raising boost and fuel delivery without changing injectors or injector pulse duration on an EJ22T is as follows:

Raise boost past stock levels with no fuel mods equals starved for fuel, knock sensor cuts in, feels great at half throttle, but does not get appreciably faster at full throttle.

Add 4/1 rising rate fuel regulator makes no difference because stock fuel pump lacks adequate volume.

Walbro aftermarket pump with no rising rate fuel pressure regulator does a lot of good, but not quite perfect.

Walbro pump with 4/1 rising rate fuel regulator cures the problem, presumeably up to the point where 380cc/min injectors are at about 80% duty cycle.

A 4:1 regulator on a car that is turbo'd from the factory is really
unnecssary...the stock ecu cannot handle this at all. These are only needed
when turboing a NA car, and even then, a 2:1 or 2.5 :1 is all you need.
