removing the A-pillar...

Post by Brian White »

Well, I've gotten tired of having the ghetto boost
gauge (rubber banded to the steering column) and am
getting ready to mount the gauge on the A-pillar. I
don't want to go in and break a bunch of plastic clips
trying to get the pillar off. Has anyone taken off
the A-pillar? If so, could you please provide some
information on what to do, and where to pry, in order
to get it off cleanly. Thanks guys.

-Brian

removing the A-pillar...

Dave and others in the same A pillar situation, I've got an A pillar from Nomad Racing for an Impreza which is the entire A pillar upto the top (but not all the way around the door). Haven't tried this for exact fit but looks pretty close. These aren't cheap - they're about £70 Sterling but are very nice. Available for 2 or 3 gauges. try www.nomadracing.co.uk

removing the A-pillar...

Post by Brian White »

Ok, so a follow up to my original question. Can the
A-pillar be removed without resorting to removing all
of the trim pieces around the door? I started SLOWLY
prying the a-pillar off yesterday, but it looked as
though I might have to remove the dash/B-pillar
column. So, is it possible to only remove the
A-pillar? Thanks again.

removing the A-pillar...

Post by Kam »

I haven't tried this myself but I did half attempt it a while ago and I don't think it will come off without breaking something. The most likely thing that will break are the plastic clip mouldings on the back. This could be a major pain in the butt! I reckon this because one of my rear pillars is broken in this way by the owner who had the car before me - so the pillar moulding doesn't stay attched. Therefore, I would avoid trying to remove the a pillar.

removing the A-pillar...

Post by Josh Colombo »

It will come off.......It however does not come off easily. The upper trim piece at the top of the door goes over the piece that goes down the A-pillar.

The top piece sorta snaps around the bottom edge of the window trim. It is held on by these little metal clips that grabs onto the metal holder an the plastic piece. They're pretty much designed to not be taken off....easily. I have taken my A-pillar off. I ran the antenna to my alarm up it to get better reception. All I can suggest is to be very careful and slowly work at it. I can look in the FSM's tonight and see if it shows exactly where the clips are and such.

Josh
