Headlight washers

Post by Dr Nick »

My right headlight washer was broken when I got the car. I've sourced a used replacement.

Does anyone know exactly what bonds the unit to the bumper (fender)?

i believe there is a clip for the bottom side of the nozzle (thats on the inside part of the bumper). i also think that its nearly impossible to replace one with out taking the bumper off.

btw the US has never recieved the headlamp squirters :( , so i doubt any of us would have first hand experiences.

Man...you KNOW I want some headlight squirters! If you sourced a replacement, do you happen to have a part number?

I have wondered about this...I'd seen them, but couldn't figure it out since we didn't have them. Are there aftermarket headlight washers we could put on or jury rig something? Any ideas? Do the stock headlight squirters just come on when you wash your window, or do they have their own button and such?
much thanks

They have their own separate button in the same panel as the front fog light switch (it may be a blank in the US cars). It's actually the only car I've ever seen with a separate switch for headlight washers...

headlight washers would be a peice of cake to design- its basically the same system as the windshield washer system. You could tap your wiper fluid reservoir, salvage the little washer pump, hoses and nozzles from a usdm car, run wiring from a hot wire under dash to a button on the dash (make your own, or do whatever) back to the pump, and run the hoses out under the bumper and glue (epoxy) on the windshield washers. If there is too much water flowing, put a resistor on the pump. I think too much power would be cool though

That said, it sounds like a miserable job for a stupid feature. you gotta run wiring all over the place, take out your radio, install switches, run hose everywhere, and take apart your front bumper. And then its only one more thing to break.

Im interested if anyone does it though.

The headlamp squirter mod has been on my list since day one. I have done a bit of homework since then as well.

Here is a link to all the info you need (part numbers etc). Although it is for the GC8 impreza, everything will work for the first gen legacys. However the nozzle has a slightly different bottom lip on it, although im sure they will still work, and the button is different than for the legacy.

I think if anyone could source a part number for our button, i would defintetly do this

Yes, the part number for the button would be key. I recently found a foglight button that was available on some Legacy's. Since this was never available as an option here it might be tough to source. The best bet would be to contact the Aussies or the UK guys.
