STi pressure plate, clutch disk, center viscous LSD, Rally springs, rally shocks, front adn rear sway bars, upper strut tops front and rear, front and rear suspension busings, engine mounts, rear diff mount, and brake pads.

Aren't pressure plate, clutch disk, etc.... the same for both BC, BF

RS liberty's are. I am gussing that you Legacy's don't have a pull type clutch.

Let me clairfy: the Liberty and Legacy Turbos all use a pull type clyutch, as does the WRX. However, my understanding is that the clutch for the new age GDA model is different than the previous GC8 models. As such, GDA models have their own clutch kits offered by various companies, and the GC8 and Legacy can all share the same clutch. Again, this is what suplliers have told me, have not had the opportunity to check it myself. I am not sure if it has something to do with clutch/flywheel specs (i.e thicknesses, tolercances, etc.), or number of splines in the tranny...I suspect the former.

Adam,

I am pretty sure that the clutch type on the turbo legacy is different then the normal legacy and impreza. I don't know if it's the pull/push type....whatever......I will check the FSM's when I get back in town on friday. But I believe this was discussed on here before.

Do you have any ill effact after you lighted the stock flywheele?
I do have some bad feeling after I lighted the stock flywheele, it
made the clutch pedal good to the floor every time.
Anyone knows what happened?

If you lightened it by making it thinner the pressure plate would
be "moved" farther forward this is why they do not recommend re-
surfacing flywheels. We have replaced flywheels that were so bad
after re-surfacing that the clutch could not be disengaged. We will
have some 12 lb chromoly flywheels available soon.

There ae a vairety of good lightweight flywheels out there for the Leacy Turbo (BC/BF)..any of the GC8 WRX units will work perfectly. For those we prefer Exedy (who makes the STi units) JUN and BPM.

ok i have a very stupid question so get ready to slap me... I have
an automatic slush box.. and when i was replaceing my oil pan (off
road raceing will leave nice creases and dents) i noticed i had a
flywheel.. Well theres the stupid part.. i know my manual had one
but i didn't think my auto did.. or if it did it wouldn't resemble the
manual flywheel.. I've never taken my auto 2.2 apart that far to find
out.. as i have with the manual.. Can i buy a lightened flywheel for
my auto... like i can for my manual.. are they the same or don't
bother...

Thanks for any info or slaps ahead of time..

If you're talking about the intercooler from an '02 WRX, yes it will.
Granted, as always, it's a tight fit putting an intercooler into our
engine bay, but it does.

It requires moving some hoses around and getting some custom ones
done, but it DOES fit.

Jason,

There seems to be a concensus that the '02 WRX intercooler will physically fit
in my engine bay. But are you saying that you disagree with Adam's assesment
that the intercooler won't work without a different turbo with a 90 degree
elbow?

Fred,
Jason is right, I have a 2002 WRX intercooler in my 93 US spec Legacy Turbo. Its a tight fit and requires some relocation of items. If anybody doesnt believe me, come take a look at it yourself!

Torque converter

Post by Josh Colombo »

What you are seeing is the back side of the torque converter.....at least that's what I think you're looking at.....if you remove that little plug thing on the bell housing on the tranny.

The exterior portion of the torque converter I believe is connected directly to the motor's crank, and the stator is connected to the tranny portion.

I can try and find a pic of the setup of the trans in the FSM's or from some of my course work in school

Mine is a MRT machined down standard flywheel. The reason I got iy is that the original was craked to bad to repair.

Also I have had no ill effect. The car still feels standard. When they lightend the flywheel they machined the engine side of the flywheel, not the clutch side. I have no shudder in the clutch and it has not sliped one bit in the last 10000km.
