Picked up my used legacy turbocharger today

Post by deyes »

Say hello to the turbo that will ressurect my $700.00 legacy. I'll post some pics of the install and the car later this week.

Funny story, I had plans to pick the turbo up at a local subaru recycler on sat. and work on the car that day, however after calling friday and verifying they had the part I went in sat. to find out they did not, and that "The price I was quoted was too cheap seeing as they are $900 from the dealership." he also failed to check the computer to see if the part was in the inventory. I was rather put off, but decided to go back monday when the guy that "served" me on sat was hopefully not there and buy the part for the price quoted. There goes my saturday plans to be on the road by monday.

I had my wife call monday to verify availability of the part, she was quoted $25.00 more than I was after she called it a supercharger and not a turbocharger (I was not at all surprised by the inflated price for the fairer sex). She went in an hour later and let them know how her husband was treated and about the price discrepancy, she got the turbo for the price I was quoted and an apology from the guy that was so rude to me. Not a totally satisfactory experience from what I understand to be a reputable and freindly auto recycler but the price was much more than fair. I plan on being a frequent patron of said recycler I believe this to be an isolated incident.

Three questions for ya.
1. Is your car already a turbo wagon that needs a new turbo?
2. Is this the RHB5 stock turbo or WRX TD04?
3. How much did you pay for it?

I called one auto wrecker here in Denver and asked them if they had any 91-94 Subaru Legacies and they said they had quite a few on the lot. So I took two hours off work only to get there and the guy was full of shit. A few late 80s Loyales and earlier stuff. Really made me mad.

I live in Sacramento when I'm not at school and have been to that recylcer many many many many times. I have to say that it is nice, cause they have lots of wrecked cars there and they usually have the stuff you need. I don't appreciate their service though. I go there and feel like they really don't care that I'm there. Just bad atmosphere for customers I guess. It doesn't bother me too much cause I'm savy enough and know exactly what I want when I go there, but for someone who wouldn't be so savvy I'd think that they'd feel a little uncomfortable or put off.
