Fuel injector/fuel rail connection...Orings, gaskets, seals?

Post by czo79 »

Hola...
I am needing to replace or rebuild an injector or two...I am wondering...How does the injector connect to the fuel rail? And to the engine for that matter...what I'm really trying to find out is, when I pull the injectors, will their be some kind of gaskets/orings/seals between the injector and engine and/or injector and fuel rail. Since I have a JDM EJ20G with 440cc injectors, if there are some kind of seal that will need to be replaced and can't be reused, I will need to source it, probably from japan or australia, before I go about taking these out. Also, I suspect one of my injectors is leaking down into the cylinder when the engine is off. Is there a seal between the injectors and engine that could be the culprit, rather than the injector itself? Does anyone think that a rebuild my cure this if it is the injector? Much thanks...

The injectors are simply held in place by a top cap. They however aren't probably going to go anywhere with the caps removed. They're a bugger to get out of the rails.

Yes there are O-rings. Should be pretty standard o-rings. If you send them off to get rebuilt, I would assume they'd replace o-rings....but I could be wrong.

From your understanding of the injector/oring/rail setup, does it seem possible for fuel to leak past orings into the engine while the car is turned off? Its probably more likely the injector itself is leaking...maybe it doesn't close all te way?
much Thanks

Well.....unless there is a tear in the o-ring, wrong size o-ring, or it is severely degraded, I think the chance it's leaking through the injector is higher.
