How much can I cool off manifold without breaking?!?

Post by Doobaru42 »

I'm going to build a custom retractable hood scoop for my EJ22 in order to gain some reving power. It's going right above the intake manifold so as to push air over it. Will my intake manifold break from cooling too much in relation to engine block? Is it strong enough for a possible water mister running from my unused windshield cleaner box (refilled with distilled water of course)?

I noticed the manifold gets REALLY REALLY hot under that hood especially in hot weather. This has got to be killing my power, right? Just the act of forcing air downwards should make an incredible difference in manifold temp which = more air being pulled into cylinders.

Instead of reducing the aerodynamics of the car, which will have a huge effect on gas mileage, why not prevent the heat from ever reaching the intake manifold? The engine will just replace any heat you remove, simply by the fact that the thermostat will open less often
