changed timming belt and is out of timing

Post by nsantos23 »

Hey Guys,

My timing belt poped yesterday due to a roller. Today after spending a few hours installing the new timing belt and aligning the timing marks of the camshafts and sproket, the car is awayyyy out of timing. what can i do to get it right?

thanks

neo

PS: by the way i got pictures of the procedure

I dont see how that's possible, did you use the arrows on the sprockets or the notches? How many teeth are between the pass side cam and the crank and betweenthe crank and the driver side cam?

A shop probably wouldn't be able to find out what's wrong any easier than you could... just double check things.... make sure the belt is going through the pullies the right way.... make sure the marks are still lined up after tension is on the belt.... also... did you install the belt with the arrow in the proper rotation direction....and... did you line up the marks on the belt with the notches?

That was very helpful,

but i have another problem now, after everything back in place and the car running , i have a fuel cut at 3K rpm, it feels like the car is chocking , but if i give it gas it stops, changed spark plugs to NGks and changed the coil pack and nothing what can it be?

it may not have anything to do with it, but for some strange reason when the timing belt broke, 3 spark plugs stopped working, so when i put the timing belt on and tried to start the car it felt like it was out of timing but it really was misfiring!! well changed spark plugs to NGKs and is running fine except for the chocking at 3K rpm

cheers

Is it possible that your valve timing is still off by a tooth or so on one or both cams?

Neo,
I am so sorry to hear that you just have this extended string of bad luck. :(

I am going to guess that having the timing off for a few days has fouled up your new plugs. Pull them out and check them. A poorly tuned car can ruin plugs very very quickly...

m i dont know at this point, the plug wires and spark plugs are brand new just installed yesterday, the car was running fine yesterday after i got done with it, then i parked after test driving it and this morning it would not start.

I'm already thinking i should sell it to someone that will take care of it better, i would except any fair offer.

Neo, I really think you should take a look and make sure there are the correct number of belt teeth between the marks on the sprockets before you give up on the car.

Dude, i have tried about 5 times taking everything apart and ligning up again and nothing my mechanic in which worked on a sunday just because of me took everything apart twice and put everything togther twice and it didnt happen i went over sensor by sensor with him (i always have 2 sets of sensors) and they all work fine, besides this even if i get the car running again i will sell it cuz gas prices here are ridiculous, $2.02 for super and the car only does 16-18mpg, so i really want to get a n/a legacy. Well if any of you are interested let meknow, any $1500 or so i'll let it go
