Mechanic says its OK

Post by LegacyPunk »

Well...my dad took my car up to a mechanic place to check out the Code 22, they recet it 3 times and inspected the engine well, and they couldn't find anything wrong with it. I guess my engine is running right even though the CEL is still on.

I noticed some rattling, at stops, of my IC against the firewall, might be affecting the knock sensor but i doubt it. ill put some padding on the IC and see if it helps, thats the only other thing I can think of.

Still sounds like I have some sort of boost leak, but could just be the MBC part throttle full boost thing, Ill pull the IC sometime and check the gaskets.

stupid knock sensor

Its the gaskets between the Y pipe pieces that connect to the back of the IC.

IIRC you're running an OEM MY02+ USDM WRX TMIC, correct?

It's not unreasonable to think that the intercooler banging around could cause the ECU to think it detects knock... I know a common way (at least in the past, when cast iron blocks were the norm) to test a knock sensor is to bang on the engine block with a hammer while it's idling. You supposedly can hear the timing retard happen.

Cool, well I turned my boost down about 1 psi, and now its back at stock boost and my boost leak seems to be gone. I don't know how this helped cause the air sounded like it was leaking past 5 psi, and now when i go past 5 psi it seems solid. Forked if I know whats goin on.

Ill throw some padding of some sort on the back of the IC where it touches the firewall and see if that helps.
