Newb q, igniter location

Post by QuickDrive »

The igniter that's normally on the pitchmount of the firewall in the center can be moved...

My question is does it need to stay in a horizontal posistion? or can it just be plopped anywhere in any position?

It can be mounted in any position.

Be aware, though, that it uses its mounting bracket as a heat sink, so it's probably not a good idea to leave it somewhere unmounted.

So Then I'll put that bracket back on, extend the wiring and mount it somewhere safe.

I mounted mine right around the corner from where it is stock. There's another hole that you can screw it into and it'll be out of the way. You do need to bend the bracket slightly to make it work though. :)

what is this ignitor thingie? could that be replaced by something such as an MSD ignition? I'll stab at answering my own question: that sends the power needed to the spark plugs so that the engine runs, right?
Thanks for letting me look dumb, i need it

The ignitor is basically a pair of power transistors that the ECU uses to switch power to each coil of the coil pack. An MSD DIS-2 can be connected between the ignitor and coil pack, and works very well there. If you do a search on "MSD" you should be able to find some posts about it.

By the way, 91legacy_sleeper... did you still want that Gmail account?
