Headlight problem.

Post by IronMonkeyL255 »

My brother is having problems with his (formerly my) '94 Legacy wagon.

He said that when he pushed the light stalk forward to turn on the high beams, they would only come on about 1/3 of the time.

He also said that it would always bring the highs on when he pulled the stalk back.

I haven't had a chance to take a look at it, but I think the stalk may be going bad.

Anyone here had anything similar happen?

My instinct agrees with yours -- the switch in the stalk is probably the culprit, since the brights come on reliably when you pull the "light horn."

Apparently, it is about $395 to replace the stalks. They come as one part, so you can't just get the light stalk......

They refuse to give me the part #, though.

For that I suggest a junk yard and trying to see if you can disassemble the old unit and see if there's any way to just clean it up or otherwise repair it. I did that with a bad washer pump the dealer wanted $80 for. Took me 20 mins to pull it out, clean the contacts with sand paper, and reinstal.
