Is it just me, or do the dealers/ parts people just suck?

Post by dscoobydoo »

OK, except for the few exceptions, most dealers-parts people suck. I almost get to the point where I want to push them out of the way and use the computer myself.

The salespeople are even worse. Most of them barely know the cars they are selling.

Subaru does not have that many chassis codes, and the platforms are mostly the same.

I called my local one today to try and find out if they could source the STi top hats from the GC8 import cars.

I could have been speaking Portuguese and gotten better results.

There are a few on-line Subaru parts places that excel, and a few dealers are out there that know their shit.
To them, I send kudos.

To the rest, I wish I could save up my frustration and return it to them when I am there for an hour as they look up a simple part.

That is why I am here. An on-line library of experience and knowledge with which to enrich my go-fast quest for my scooby.
That and the humor.
So this is also a kudos to everyone on here that posts.

We should have a local/national bc/bf meet and get stinky drunk.

My car's collecting some good horror stories now. Bastard knows I wrote it into two (and a future) novels so feels it can blow up on me without fear of the reaper. Hm ...

I agree that parts people suck. Their prices are rediculous, too. I just ordered some parts from subaruparts.com and even with next day shipping it was $100 cheaper than the dealer. Bastards got me for $35 for a bolt on the rear suspension + another $12 for the nut! I was stuck so I paid it.

My local dealership SUCKS! They are also the Chrysler/Plymouth dealer. The parts guys there could give a shit about Subarus.

One time I went in there looking for a part and the guy couldn't find it on his computer, so he had to go to "the book" and I clearly heard him say under his breath, "Fucking Subarus, I hate those fucking cars." He was even more pissed when I decided not to buy the part from them as the price was waaaaaay too high.

They have even resorted to not giving my friend part numbers anymore unless he agrees to buy the part. (I have told him to report this to SOA, but he hasn't)

The mechanics are pretty cool though... I got a few tips from one while I was there.

He wouldn't hate them if he worked on them. Chrysler = junk.

I hate when I go to the dealer for an engine-related part for my XT. I tell them it's an EA82 nonturbo... "What kind of car is it?"

Even the mechanics can be pretty dumb. I told a master Subaru tech that just got out of his class that the STi was an EJ25, but nooooo it was an EJ20
