A few engine and transmission Mount questions

Post by jamal »

I went down to the dealership today to see about new engine and transmission mounts, since I figure couldn't hurt to replace mine when my new transmission gets installed next week. For the two transmission mounts and two engine mounts they wanted $440.

I was a little confused; for the transmission mounts he was looking at the two little rubber L-shaped things that go on top of the cross piece. Do I need those, or do I just buy the cross piece?

I've been looking at the group N stuff, which for some reason cost way less than the mounts from the dealer, so I think I'll just go to flat4engineering or something and get all the mounts for like $200.

More questions:
-Can I buy the mount for an automatic transmission? It seems to just be for a manual.

-What is a pitch rod? Do I have one, or need one?

Thanks in advance for any information

-Get the group N/STi mounts over new stock mounts from teh dealer. MUCH better cost/performance ratio.

-As far as i know there is no STi automatic transmission mount. I'm unfamiliar with it's setup, since i've never had an awd automatic.

-The STi engine mounts will work fine on your car.

-The pitch rod it on the top of the transmission, it goes from the center/top of the firewall to the top of the tranny. Ours is made from metal and the sti is plastic... but our bushings are going to be over 10 years old. The STi would still be an upgrade.

for awd autos the tranny mount are the two pieces, unfortunately, there is no upgraded version for this, if you do need the pieces though I can sell you mine. They were in good condition as was pretty much everything else on this car. but if you want brand new, I'd just get the trannymounts oem and enginemounts sti. The crosspiece is actually the transmission crossmember, unless it's bent (which I doubt would happen without damage to the rest of the car/tranny) it shouldnt need to be replaced, or I guess rusty.

I see. Well, the transmission isn't going in until next week. I don't know if I'm going to need group N engine mounts with 11 year old transmission mounts, so I think I'll just leave the mounts alone as long as they're in decent shape.

Eh. I keep seeing all these things I can buy for my car. What I really need to do is just wait until I have something with a stick that's turbocharged.

or you could just transplant all that stuff in there if that's what you want. :) It sounds harder than it actually is.

Unless you're doing it alone in a driveway and it's your only car.
