hesitating tranny...

Post by stant093 »

My LSi is shifting funny...when i take it out of park and put it in drive, it takes about 4 seconds to engage...then when shifting from 3 to 4th, theres a pretty good lag, the car almost loses most of its momentum when it finally gets to 4th gear.....i changed the filter a few months ago, so thats nice and new still, also the gasket was leaking just a tiny bit, also fixed now...oil changed less than 2k miles ago....
Also, what is mainly used to setup a tranny oil cooler, is there a kit you can buy or is it something you have to fabricate?
(sorry for the questions, but i never seem to find ANYTHING regarding 90+legacy's online, just circles)
Thanks everyone!

ciper,

since you mentioned fluid, and I've been meaning to ask you. Would you recommend putting the Redline D4 synthetic tranny fluid in a transmission with 173k miles on it? Any possible issues you could see from swapping over to synthetic at such a high mileage?

I used the redline in one of my legacy, in the other I opted to do a complete fluid change using a machine at a lube shop.

The complete flush is pretty cool, it ends up using something like 20qts of fluid.

I think the Redline would be a great addition to an old transmission that has been maintaned. For example one of mine now has brown transmission fluid, looks like used oil. Im just going to use normal fluid on it.

thanks,

Yeah mine has had all the routine changes, and valve body is good. I think the brake bands and a couple other things are just showing some more wear with age...
