What scanner?

Try pulling the codes using the usual method (http://www.surrealmirage.com/subaru/engine.html) and see what happens.

Is it possible that you misinterpreted what the readout said? There is no code "for the ECM" as far as I know.

The Select Monitor should have also given you a number for the code -- what number did it give?

apparently there is a code for the ecm, my dad didnt know there was one either, so i dont think it pops up much. but the code # is 49. we think its a grounding issue but i dont think i forgot to connect anything. worst case senario is that i have to rip apart the interior again and check all my grounds.

Ohhhhh..... okay.

There kind of is a code for the ECU.

49 is the code for a system error. What it really means is that there's a mismatch between the ECU and the MAF sensor.

You're using the EJ22T ECU with your EJ22T engine, right?

Was your 90 Legacy an automatic? If it was, it's got the wrong type of MAF sensor. You need to swap over the aluminum-bodied sensor from a turbo or a 90-91 5-speed non-turbo.

If you don't have the correct MAF sensor, be very careful driving the car; your air/fuel ratios are going to be wrong.

THANK YOU!!! i put a correct one on there and it works fine :P the reason the wrong one was on there is being at a subaru only shop, theres lots of parts lying around including maf's so i just grabbed one of the plastic ones for the automatics (apparently only n/a automatics), since the car is an automatic, and stuck it on, and it didnt work to good. thanks again for all your help
