why?

is it likely the switch box? the wiring?

i dont think its the motor cuz it works sometimes.

Its more than likely the switch box. I had that problem in my 90 legacy L. The plastic piece when pushed on one side presses a little metal fork down connecting a circuit to roll the window up or down if i remember correctly. I do remember that the little fork develops gunk on the metal like the rollers on the inside of a computer mouse. The "gunk" (don't know what else to call it, dirt?) keeps the metal from completing the circuit. If you take the switch box apart carefully and clean it, it should be fine. Just be careful with the pieces, I dont remember what i did but i think i had problems with the window lock button when putting it back together.
