My other car, with dyno sheet...

Post by Matt Monson »

This is from my MY00 2.5RS. I lke to say that my torque curve is as flat as a high school gymnast!!! This dyno was done at 5000ft in SLC on the same dyno that Cobb uses. A stock EJ25 powered 2.5RS gets 122.5 whp and a stock Ej20 powered WRX gets 169.9whp on this same dyno. Based on that and a little math, I am probably making 205-210hp at the crank.
My mods are as follows:
Cobb CAI
Cobb equal length headers w/high flow cat
Stromung 2.25" TT cat back
Unorthodox Racing underdriven and lightened crank pulley
NKG Platinum plugs of stock heat rating
Walbro 255 fuel pump
Cobb Club Racer aka "spicy" cams
NO engine management!!!

Other mods:
STi v5 inverted struts on stock springs
11.4" cyro treated rotors
Cobb SS brake lines all around w/Cobb Pads and Blue racing fluid
Cusco adjustable rear sway bar
STi front strut tower bar
Helix solid end links with spherical bearings all around

That's about it. I just thought I would throw this out there since I don't really talk about this car that much around here. And here are a few shots from the last CO rally-x where I placed 8 of 16 in open class and 15th overall of 43 entrants. Not bad for my first day running in the dirt. :D

DAMN MATT! Holy crap! I'm literally shocked at that torque curve and that HP slope. That's insane!

I bet that thing is a BLAST in the snow and off-the line!

My 99RS put down 137.9hp on a Mustang AWD Dyno with similar mods (worked out to about 192hp and 204lb-ft to the flywheel when calculated as conservatively as possible and over 200hp when calculated more loosely).

My "power" mods are:
Cobb spicy cams
Borla headers
Brullen 2.25" catback
K&N panel filter
SPEC 9lb flywheel

I think the full intake is a big part of the difference as a car there was a car that same day with a full intake, tuned S-AFC and a similar exhaust setup to mine, and he was not very far back from the numbers my car was putting down and he was still on stock cams.

(To be honest, I'm still too afraid of this 99 MAF to do a full intake, though. I went like a year or two with a pipercross cone filter/MAF adapter setup with no problems, then it blew two of them in one week  . It's been fine so far on the stock box with K&N panel filter setup, though.)

all you need is a blanket and pillow and you can sleep on that torque curve!

if you haven't got your ecu tuned that should be next on your list, my friend is making 189 at the wheels with the same mods as yourself + ecu tune, flywheel, ported intake manifold on his 2000 2.5rs.... the stock fuel injectors are maxed out at this point so that is the next upgrade

Your friend is probably not taking his pulls at 5000ft!!! This is why I listed the numbers for stock RS and WRX in my opening post. You CANNOT compare numbers from difference dynos unless you have controls to work with. There is no way in hell I will gain 38whp from tuing. And I also don't buy that the injectors are maxxed out. I have done the math more than once and the stock injectors can support 260-275Chp if the car is tuned properly and fuel pressure is right. But it is really common to just throw bigger injectors in there instead of properly tuning the car...

And an ECU reflash is definitely on the list. I am just waiting for Cobb to finish it. Then I will be back to SLC for tuning. Kelly, If you want to tell me more about what you can offer, please share.

I am not at all surprised that the guy Warp3 mentioned made that much power with the AFC added. The MAP based cars can gain 10-15hp very easily from tuning. That is how bad the MAPs work!!! MAF based cars see on average 5 hp more without tuning and then don't gain as much when they actually get tuned.

Warp3,
Cobb FINALLY released their MAF based CAI last week. I would look into that if I were you.

azn2nr,
I was on the dyno the day they tuned that silver WRX. Christian and his boys came in early and met me at 8am so they could do my pulls before they got down to business on that WRX. Yes, that is a sick sick car...
