my engine is overheated

Hello, My legacy gt engine is overheated when I turn on the headlight, but if the light is off ( daytime) temperature is normal even go long way, is it mean bad water pump or dirty cooling system?please help me, thanks

Ahhh.....your headlights shouldn't inpact your cooling. I wonder if you have a wiring prob. Has the car been in a front end wreck? How are the dash lights? Ever have a short in the dash? Your alternator might be on the fritz...but I never heard of that causing a over heated engine??
