OBD I. OBD II was standardized in 1996 and we all pray OBD III never happens.

Because they will data log everything about your vehicle, mod it, they'll know, speeding when in an accident, they'll know, they decide they want to know where you are so they can arrest you, hmm they know that too because it's supposed to have functions kinda like "on star" so they can track your car! It's like some kind of big brother crap, it's a bit scarey.

"This ain't something new comin' outta nowhere ... this is something old ... and dirty ..."

Yeah, some cars had OBDII a year or so earlier, but I think it was required in 1996.

I was reading the owner's manual for my mom's 05 legacy and it said that the SRS computer records whether or not the front passengers have their seatbelts on when the airbags deploy. Why you wouldn't be wearing your seatbelt is beyond me though. :? Let's hope that's all her car can do...

I'm sure most new cars will be recording vehicle speed when the airbags deploy.

It's just a matter of time, when "fault" in accidents becomes a matter of plugging into a port.

It's happened already, and it'll probably happen more often in the future. I remember reading about an incident in Montreal a few years ago... Some idiot driving some kind of GM vehicle killed a kid when he hit him in a residential zone. In court they presented evidence against him extracted from one of the computers -- I think it was the airbag computer -- showing that he was traveling something like 100 mph and that he had the throttle wide open and never touched the brakes.

It's basically an easier and more high-tech version of the typical forensic analysis that involves collecting data about skid marks, tire damage, kinematics, etc.

The scariest part is about how easy this kind of evidence is to tamper with.

I know ONSTAR can track your vehicle, lock and unlock your doors, shut the car off, and control the throttle on the Drive-By-Wire cars.

OBD III will be like that and worse. And the registry will have direct communication.

He had some sex and then was broken waiting execution that could come at any time. It's like the scene in Lost Highway where the mystery man talks about punishments in the Far East to Pete Denton.
