alarm

Post by jpoyann »

Hello,
I want to conect a kind of alarm I´ve got. It puts on and off a switch with 10 seconds interval to simulate an engine problem. The car stops and then the thieve is able to start it again and it stops again. However I don´t know wich fuse to use from the box near the driver.
Can anyone help me?
Thanks,

jose

so... your alarm makes the engine 'lope', and quit, but then the theif is able to start it again? What kind of alarm is it? Do the directions include some form of a starter disable, or some kind of interlock? You might want to have the switch(of which you speak?) running a switched ground to the starter, so that when it does attempt to shut the car off, it shuts it off for good.

oh, in regards to the fuse, use the one marked 'egn ign' or something to that degree.. it stands for Engine Ignition, i believe.

What are you trying to select a fuse for? Are you choosing a fuse to tap to power the alarm, or are you choosing a fuse for the alarm to disconnect?

oh, thanks V, i didn't think of that. I''m guessing (due to bad english) that he's installing something like a clifford with a starter-disable or something. I really don't know much about alarms, to be frank, but i would assume that tapping into the egn-ign fuse would get the results he's asking for...
thoughts?

I can't have any useful thoughts without more information...

What he is trying to connect seems like a clifford type alarm with a carjacking feature. This is an extreamly complex alarm system. I DO NOT RECCOMEND YOU TRY TO INSTALL ONE OF THESE! but if you dare, what you are looking for is the ignition wire found in the steering column. the alarm system will have 2 wires. it works just like a starter dissable only it is on the ignition wire. It will be hard to install any clifford alram because they dont come with directions. They are meant to be proffesionally installed only.

I actually did find the install diagram for my alarm on their site.....however I think they've since taken them down.

And yeah they are rather complicated. Messing with the ignition lead might not be the best thing. A starter interupt is a better way to go IMO.

Okay, so now that we've all posted and given info on it, has our asker actually returned to get the info?? This is nice to know, though.. Was i on the right track then, for thinking of the engine ignition fuse?

hey! alright! Thanks Magic Mike! I really appreciate your experience on this stuff, though.. I don't think i know many subaru guys that have electronics install experience that you seem to have, which, in our cases, seems to be very useful! Is it you that also makes custom boxes, too?

Well I used to make custom boxes back in the day. I did custom fiberglass speaker boxes and speaker pods for doors and kicks. I am retired now from that stuff but I still know how to do it of course. I finally got a real job working for a machine company as a service tech wih some R&D and process development thrown in there also. I like it alot. But yeah, Alarms and remote starters are not that complicated in general but like anything you need to know how to do it. Some things require more than just plain instruction.
