Anyone changed solenoids for torque bind?

Post by ehacker »

I just recently bought a 90 L as my first Subaru and I love it. Its awd (the reason I bought it) but has terrible torque bind from what I researched. All the symptoms; only during intial acceleration while turning and doesn't do any other time. I was wondering if anyone had changed the solenoids themselves or seen it done? I got an exploded view from the dealer and it looks possible. Also does anyone know if it is the single solenoid or the "three pack" of solonoids? Any information would be great. I'm considering a turbo engine swap if I get my torque bind problem taken care of.

torque bind is most likely caused by the clutch packs, not the solenoids.

The solenoid that controls the awd is the duty c solenoid and is in the rear extension housing.

My understanding was that the solenoid that relieves pressure from the lock-up control valve was to blame. That the solenoid fails and the converter doesn't lock-up correctly. Has anyobne heard of this? This is the url where I got my information:

If it is the clutch packs is there a performance rebuild kit for the 4EAT tranny?

Thanks for all the info
