94 Legacy Turbo Auto tranny -found one. thanks legacycentral

Post by Bheinen74 »

-DISREGARD THIS POST AS I JUST LOCATED A TRANNY.......I am a newbie here. I just got a 1994 Legacy Wagon Turbo, with Automatic transmission, which is on its way out. I would like to know from others what years of auto tranny is a bolt up and drive swap. I found a 98 legacy automatic that is halfway close to me, but want expert advice if it works, and is it just a simple bolt up or are there other mods to worry about. Also, want to make sure whatever I get is okay with my turbo.

Another thing I am thinking of is doing a complete motor/tranny swap from a JDM jap legacy, but do not know what that entails. Prefer just to find a cheap replacement tranny for the car and drive it, cause my engine is fine.

You need to make sure the diff ratio in the tranny is the same as your rear diff currently in the car, which is 3.90. Or you will have to replace your rear diff.

As for which other years will work. I have said that phase 2 auto's (96 & newer) can't be swapped with the phase 1 autos. However someone on the ultimate subaru message board said he has used a 97 auto on his 91. So it may be possible.
