Sin City

Post by evolutionmovement »

Sick stylized comic adaptation.

Unrelenting, darkly funny, OTT violence.

550 Spyder, '57 Nomad, '59 Cadillac.

Hot chicks. Lots.

Angela said it reminded her of my book, but more bleak.

This movie kicks ass like old school KMFDM.

I second that.

I'm going to marry Quentin Tarrantino. Our daughter's name will be Twila.

he had amazing use of color in that film, I think that was my favorite stylistic feature

That's a Tarantino trademark, if I'm not mistaken.

Yeah, I thought that was Miller and Rodriguez' idea. Anyway, this is the first time I recall smiling the whole time I watched a movie since 'Lost Highway' (except for the first 1/2 hour of WTF) or maybe 'Being John Malkovich'.

Hmmm. . .perhaps it was Miller's idea in this movie. I just recall hearing that Mr. T loves to use color as a constant message throughout many of his films.

Awesome cinematography and a great story. How much did Tarranito actually direct. The credits listed him as a "special guest director" and Frank Miller and Robert Rodriguez as directors. Either way it kicked ass.

what about the ferrari 348?
great flick. some of the goriest deaths I can remember seeing in a movie, how about the one where the dudes legs get cut off, and the guy killing him sicks the wolf dog on him who proceeds to eat him alive. 8)

I left the 348 out of the summary as I'm not that into modern Ferraris - especially the Testarossa and 348. The bright red Cadillac, the only color in the frames it was in and Clive Owen (who kicks ass) driving should be a poster. Later I was like, mmm, Jessica Alba ... HOLY SHIT SHE DRIVES A NOMAD! On the KMFDM/music tip, i did notice a Fluke track when Nancy was dancing :)

Good movie, i haven't been that immersed in anything without a mouse/kb or controller in a long time.

It didn't actually have KMFDM songs, I was just using it as a reference for an extreme high level of asskicking.

In the first few minutes of the movie I decided that im definetly going to buy it when it comes out on dvd. About the color thing, the comic books are all in black and white ink, and some of the characters have colors too them, like that one guys red shoes and that yellow guy. Only reason I know this is from being at an artschool, and one of my friends is really into comics.

tarantino only directed a short segemnt of theis film. and that was only done over the course of one day.

the use/absence of color is a direct lift from the sin city comic books.

many shots are exact replications of specific panels from the comics.

I saw this last night, and it was definitely good. I'm sure the specific color had a symbolism.....but I can't say I fully understood it all.

The friend I went with said it was a little gory, but liked it. Some people next to us got up and walked out half way through.....wussies.

I have a friend who's really into comics and told me to read these 10 years ago, but I didn't. He says there's 8 books total and that the first movie is the first three. There are rumors Johnny Depp will be in the possible sequel.

The asskicking level may have to be raised from 'Angst' to 'Nihil'.

Saw it yesterday. Easily the most satisfying use of the ticket price, ever.
Tarantino did only direct one scene. Internet says:"Tarantino filmed a scene in the final segment featuring Clive Owen, Benicio Del Toro and Brittany Murphy."
He also went to Sin City's Austin set "because he wanted to sample the digital filmmaking techniques Rodriguez used."

The only thing that made me go 'WTF?' was the ripping-off move done by Bruce Willis to that yellow bastard. I think he should have used the knife again, it would have made more sense in context.

I think there's going to be an increasing number of great movies from non-mainstream comics. (Hellboy would be my other example)

It was an "meh" movie. The plot lines really got me into it. It was just a little off the wall and bloody for me. Still, some sweet EYE CANDY! Rarrrr.

Okay, I watched it last night.

I THINK I get it, but I'm not completely sure. Am I missing something because I've never read the comics?

Without spoiling too much, I'll ask my main question: How is everyone alive again towards the end of the movie?

I feel like a retard now

Tarantinoism at its finest. . . .

. . . Pulp Fiction is much the same way. It's just a different way of telling a complete story. :)
