Broken 5th gear?

Has anyone else managed to break 5th gear in half? Like twisting it in half between the gear and the syncro lock ring thingy. Or am I the only one.

P.S. It was in an SVX at the time.

5th gear?! How'd you do that? I mean, I know the SVX is more weight than that tranny was meant to be able to pull, but still... I hear about people snapping 2nd like a saltine when they're too hard on a tranny, but 5th?

I don't know? The tranny did have about 180,000 on it but everything felt fine, I was just passing another car, shifted in to fifth, it made a bearing spinning noise and then stopped moving. I took it apart to find 5th gear split in half! I have since replaced fifth gear but haven't used the tranny yet, I got another tranny in it now with plenty of hard driving on it and no problems yet.
