google maps is awesome!

Post by THAWA »

This is mad cool. It doesn't have as many features as mappoint or some other software, but it's much better than yahoo maps or mapquest. Satellite mode kicks ass! Why is it that anything connected to google is better than most other alternatives? :)

Hehe it's funny that you mention that. Just last night my brother and I were ordering pizza and he noticed that google's map of where the local pizza places was all screwed up. Like sending you to the wrong side of town screwed up. Glad to hear that some of it is up to par though.

Any spy/adware I've ever gotten is from Google links only. Once a piggyback search engine that came up when I received no matches (a few years ago) and recently when I clicked on a link for song lyric pages. So not everything with Google is better, but it is the best search engine I find.

Yeah, Google Maps is awesome. One of the first things I did was wander around DC looking at all the monuments and stuff. It's really neat. Some of the roofs (like that on the White House) are blanked out -- I guess there's stuff up there we're not supposed to know about?

There's some other really cool stuff to check out... Look, here's the CIA headquarters across the street from my high school:

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=38.95174 ... &t=k&hl=en

And you can see all the planes on the runway at Dulles airport:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=iad&ll=38 ... &t=k&hl=en

And -- this is super cool -- there's this one plane at the Atlanta airport:

http://maps.google.com/maps?q=atl&ll=33 ... &t=k&hl=en

The plane was taking off eastward just as the satellite happened to be traveling eastward, so if you scroll to the right you can actually see the plane take off and start to ascend.

And I think this is a test track at the Chrysler headquarters:

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=42.65768 ... &t=k&hl=en

Windmills in the Mojave Desert:

http://maps.google.com/maps?ll=35.04805 ... &t=k&hl=en

And here's a cool junkyard in Jessup, MD:

Yeah, I've noticed some planes around the Dallas airport as well. Chuckled when I saw them, and again when you pointed these out. :D

So many cars in the track parking lot.
