Post by khunsa »

Hi, I need to put a new gearbox in my 89 rs legacy/liberty, and i was thinking about putting an sti gearbox in it, would it fit without any modification or hassel? Help would be appreciated! Cheers!

Yes the version definately makes a difference. Assuming the final drive and everything is the same it'll pop right in no problem. If however the final drive is different you'll have to change the rear diff. As far as the actual mounting of it, it's all the same. I'm assuming this isnt a 6 speed.

if the STI box is indeed 4.44 you will need a rear diff that works w/it. the original diff is probably not a 4.44. it is probably a 3.90 or a 4.11.
